Recently, Norwegian ship management giant V.Ships (V.Ships Norway A.S.) pleaded guilty to charges of violating the U.S. Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships and will pay a fine of US$2 million.
Between February and August 2022, the ship's crew connected the incinerator's waste oil tank to the domestic sewage holding tank via a hose, discharging oily waste directly into the sea, bypassing required pollution prevention equipment. An engineering crew member reported the violation to V.Ships' supervisor, and an investigation revealed evidence of oil contamination in the sewage tank.
